The GETdetroitsports.com softballers captured the Sterling Heights
playoff championship with two very different walkoff wins on M, 8/25/14.
The semi-finals were a 13-1, 5-INN mercy-kill when Harry Penczak's RBI
single capped a 7-run frame to end it early.
In the playoff finals it took two extra innings for Erik Schneider to loft
a sac-fly to score the winning run in an 11-10 decision.

Our lads scored twice in the B-1st and led all the way in a 13-1 mercy win
vs third-seeded Fisher Dynamics.
With two no-shows the Gds.com team had a scrambled lineup with five
players out of their normal positions. Brandon Proffer made his season pitching
debut in a complete game win and he also contributed a triple at the plate.
Erik Schneider went 4-for-4 with 4-RBIs. Jake Page and emergency catcher
Brandon Chappell were each 2-for-3 with 2-R as Chappell (in his team debut)
added 2-RBIs.

The opposition in the championship contest was G.S.Y.M., who had
upset regular season champs Murphree's H/C in the semis. During the
season we'd beaten GSYM by scores of 21-4 and 21-12.
After blowing an 8-0 lead in this title game, then falling behind 10-8 in
the T-9th, the Gds.com team scored three times in the B-9th to pull out
the 11-10 victory.
The defense which had been solid for two months suddenly went south
and seven errors allowed the enemy to get back into the game with a half
dozen unearned runs.
Our boys had more walks (15) than hits (14) and squandered numerous
opportunities to end it early with 18-LOB including two innings where we
left the bases loaded (getting 1-R the first time and none the second).
Pat Zajch drove from the Rotunda tournament in Dearborn to make his
season debut, but didn't last long when he pulled his hamstring legging-out
a double in the B-3rd.
In the winning rally, the first two batters drew walks. Lead-off man
Nick Evanoff, who entered the night with no RBIs on the season, gaped
a game-tying triple for his second and third RBIs of the game and fourth
of the doubleheader. The GSYM strategy was to give intentional walks to the
next two batters to load the bases and set up a force at home. Still with no
outs, team RBI leader Erik Schneider came to the plate and drove a sacrifice
flyball deep to RField (3rd RBI of the game) to easily score the speedy Evanoff
with the winning run.
Evanoff was 3-for-5 plus a walk with 2-R & 3-RBI while brother Tony was
perfect at the plate going 3-for-3 with two walks & 2-R. Tom Lockard went
0-for-1, but drew five free passes (the last intentional) and scored twice.
T-Loc also moved over from 2Base to SStop this night to display some flashy
The playoff final result put the Gds.com squad at an overall record of 16-3
on the year.
It's the 11th tournament championship overall and second this year to go
with seven division titles in the 36 year history of Coach Kurt's teams.
