The Detroit Press Club swept its doubleheader on May 20TH to go to
4-1 on the season and into a multi-team tie for first place entering the
Memorial Day bye week.

M, 5/20/13...Gm-1:

    DPC             14-22-2, 8-LOB
    Ya Heard     5-14-2, 9-LOB

With six players including four starters AWOL the Press Club began the
evening with eight rostered players and got to the usual 10-man line-up by
the 3rd-INN of the opener. Fortunately, we were facing a winless team. The
DPC led 9-0 after 2-INN and cruised from there.
Brandon "Shane Halter" Proffer played his third position in three weeks to
turn in an errorless effort at SStop while going 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles
and 3-R at the plate. Jack Kline was 4-for-4 with 3-RBI. Greg Handel went
2-for-2 with 2-SFlies, 1-R & 4-RBI. Erik Schneider had a 3-for-5, 2B, 2-R & 2-RBI
effort. Bob Blair played the part of DLed Ed Kaltz with three sac-flies.

    DPC     25-18-1, 7-LOB...6-INN, Time Limit
    HT's     9-16-3, 9-LOB

In the nightcap the Clubbers bested HT's by refusing to permit a big
inning by the opposition.
The DPC countered a 3rHR in the B-1st with a 5-R/T-2nd and led the
rest of the way. Paul Mikula's 3rHR tied it up and the Press Club added
two more runs.
A 6-R/T-5th put the DPC on top 15-7. A last inning threat was squashed
and the game ended at time limit with the bases loaded. The last two outs
were recorded by 3Bman Greg Handel who caught a foul pop near the fence,
then speared a hot-shot bouncer and threw to second to end the game on
a forceout.
Greg Handel also went 3-for-4 at bat with a double, 3-R & 3-RBI. Pressed
into service at catcher, Steven Handel concluded his debut night by going
3-for-4 with an RBI. John O'Donnell was likewise 3-for-4 with 1-R. That gave
the bottom three in the batting order a 9-for-12 evening.
Gary Lesnau pitched his second complete game victory of the night.
