@ LITTLE CAESARS ARENA:
Reggie Jackson scored 20-P in 28-mins, both high figures since his
four game return from an ankle injury, and the Pistons outdistanced
the Los Angeles Lakers 112-106 Monday night.
In a nip-&-tuck affair Ish Smith sank a 3-pointer just before the buzzer
to get Detroit within 55-53 at halftime. Subbing for foul-troubled Blake
Griffin, Anthony Tolliver scored 8-P in the 3rd-QTR and then hit a triple
to begin the 4th-QTR for an 84-76 Detroit advantage. Griffin returned to
the floor with five fouls and scored a 3-ball to make it 102-93 with 3:32
Reggie Bullock added 16-P for Detroit. Griffin, Tolliver and Andre
Drummond each totaled 15-P with Drummond grabbing a game-high 17-RB.
Smith had 12-P.
Julius Randle scored a game-high 23-P with 11-RB for the Lakers and
Flint, MICH native Kyle Kuzma had 20-P & 11-RB. Rookie Lonzo Ball had a
complete game with 15-P, 8-RB and a game-high 11-A. Brook Lopez scored
14-P and former Piston Kentavious Caldwell-Pope 13.
The Pistons won their second straight and fourth in five games but
at 34-40 trail idle Miami by five games with eight to play for the last
NBA Eastern Conference playoff spot.
Already eliminated from the Western Conference playoff picture, the
Lakers lost for the fifth time in six outings.
The Pistons held a moment of silence before Monday's game in
honor of Grand Rapids Drive swingman Zeke Upshaw, who passed
away Monday morning. Upshaw collapsed on the court near the end
of Saturday's game with Detroit's G-League farm team. It's not clear
if Upshaw ever regained consciousness. The G-League has delayed
its entire playoff schedule three days until March 30th due to Upshaw's
