@ THE CORNER BALLPARK:

    Organized baseball was played at
Michigan and Trumbull for the first
time in 18 and a half years Saturday
as The Corner Ballpark and Willie
Horton Field of Dreams was formally
dedicated.

A new $20-million, 2,500 seat facility built on the site of Bennett Park/
Navin Field/Briggs Stadium/Tiger Stadium began play with a Detroit PAL
(Police Athletic League) contest followed by a high school baseball doubleheader.

The Detroit Tigers last played at "The Corner" in 1999 and the 97-year old
stadium was torn down in 2009 on the 8.5 acre site.  Construction began in
2016 on the new artificially turfed facility which replicates the dimensions
of the longtime major league ballpark.
