@ MARCHANT STADIUM:

    Tigers Opening Day starter
Jordan Zimmermann was banged
about for 4-R/4-ER on 9-H & 1-W
with 6-K in his 5-IP on 93-pitches/
62-strikes to take the loss (1-1)
as Philadelphia beat the Tigers 4-1
Saturday afternoon.

It was a less than ideal tune-up for Zimmermann's season opening
assignment Thursday at Comerica Park vs Pittsburgh.

Zimmermann finished exhibition play with an even 5.00-ERA in 5-GP
& 18-IP.

Pedro Florimon scored on Andrew Knapp's squeeze bunt in the T-2nd.
Roman Quinn had an RBI single and then scored on a J.P. Crawford single
in a 2-R/T-4th.  Zimmermann balked home Nick Williams in the T-5th
for a 4-0 Phillies lead.

Detroit's lone run came with 2-out/B-9th on Jake Thompson's second
wild pitch of the inning that plated John Hicks from 3Base.

The Tigers managed only 5-H off six Phils pitchers with no Bengal batter
getting multiple safeties.

    Warwick Saupold (2-IP, 2-H, 1-HBP & 2-K), Buck Farmer (1-IP, 1-H & 1-K)
and Mark Montgomery (1-IP, 1-H & 1-K) followed Zimmermann to the hill
in scoreless Detroit relief.

Phils starter and Lakeland, FLA native Drew Hutchison earned the win
(2-0) by yielding 1-H & 3-W  with 1-WP & 3-K in his 4-IP.

Detroit became 11-15-4 in Grapefruit LGE play.

      PHI       4-12-1, 10-LOB       (W) Hutchison, 2-0
      DET      1-5-1, 8-LOB           (L) Zimmermann, 1-1

EXTRA INNINGS:

The Tigers granted 28-year old UTIL INF Alexi Amarista his unconditional
release on Saturday morning.  If the .231 hitter over 702 MLB in seven seasons
with the LA Angels, San Diego and Colorado doesn't find work elsewhere Detroit
hopes to re-sign Amarista for 3A Toledo.
