    Late free agent signee RHP
Jake Arrieta made his Phillies
debut Thursday and was taken
deep by Miguel Cabrera as part of
a 6-2 Tiger win over Philadelphia.

Cabrera cranked a 2-out/T-1st solo homerun (#2) to the RField berm to
give Detroit an instant lead and the Bengals stayed ahead start to finish.

Arrieta, who inked a 3-year, $75-million contract with Philadelphia on
March 12TH, yielded 2-R/2-ER on 3-H with 2-K.

A beanball war and multiple ejections erupted after Tiger SStop Jose
Iglesias had to leave the game after being hit by a Zach Eflin pitch in a
2-R/T-5th.  Eflin was not ejected.

Tiger starter Matthew Boyd (W, 4-0) was thrown out of the game when
he plunked Phillies CFielder Odubel Herrera with 2-out, none on in the B-5th.
Boyd had buzzed Herrera's tower when the batter unexpectedly stepped
out of the box on an 0-1 count.  Boyd then hit Herrera on a 3-2 count when
the hitter leaned over the plate.

After brief calm and with minor leaguers in the game, four Phils were
ejected in the last two innings when two TigerTowners were HBP.  HP
umpire Tom Hallion tossed Phillies MGR Gabe Kapler, pitchers Parker Frazier
and Pedro Beato and bench coach Rob Thompson.

Iglesias had a T-2nd RBI double off Arrieta and a run-scoring single in
the T-4th off second Phils reliever Hector Neris for a 3-0 score.

Nicholas Castellanos and John Hicks both had RBI singles in the T-5th
off fourth Philly hurler Eflin for a 5-1 score before the fireworks erupted.

Extra bus rider Brady Policelli gave Detroit the 6-2 final with his T-9th
RBI single.

Phils runs came on a B-4th Pedro Florimon single and a B-7th Adam
Rosales solo homer (#1) to LField.
    Boyd yielded 1-R/1-ER on 5-H & 1-HBP with 3-K in 4.2-IP.  First Detroit
reliever Alex Wilson allowed 1-R/1-ER in 2.1-IP on 2-H with 4-K.  Daniel
Stumph and Victor Alcantara each added a scoreless inning.

Iglesias was 2-for-2 and Cabrera & Hicks were both 2-for-4 at the plate.
Christin Stewart was 3-for-5.

The Tigers became 10-14-4 in Grapefruit LGE games.

      DET       6-13-0, 11-LOB       (W) Boyd, 4-0
      PHI        2-7-2, 6-LOB          (L) Arrieta, 0-1

The Tigers made eight cuts Thursday morning, reducing the major league
roster to 28, three over the Opening Day limit with O-Day a week away.  Sent
to 3A Toledo were LHPs Chad Bell and Blaine Hardy.  Assigned to minor league
camp with most if not all eventually targeted to join the Mud Hens were CA
Derek Norris and Jarrod Saltalamacchia, utilitymen Pete Kozma and Ronny
Rodriguez and OF-1B Jim Adduci & Chad Huffman.
