    Josh Smith scored a game-
high 25-P and his bank shot
with 1.2-sec remaining gave
the Pistons a 110-108 Saturday
night win over Phoenix.
    The Pistons won their second
in as many nights following a six
game losing streak.
Smith beat the shot clock with a 3-pointer for a 108-105 Detroit lead
with 26.8-sec remaining. However, Smith then fouled Suns GD Gerald Green
during a triple try and Green made all three free throws to tie the game
with 4.3-sec left.
Smith took the follow-up in-bounds pass neer the top of the key, drove
the basket, switched hands and made his left-handed back shot for
winning bucket in spite of tight defense by Channing Frye of Phoenix.
Green's desperation heave in front of the Detroit bench missed by a mile
at the final buzzer.
For awhile it looked like the Pistons might have another late game
collapse. Phoenix started the 4th-QTR on a 13-3 run to tie the game at
92. Another 8-0 burst capped by P,J. Tucker's 3-ball re-tied the contest
105-all with 51.2-sec on the clock.
Smith added 11-RB to his stat log. Brandon Jennings (8-P) passed out
18 assists, the most in the NBA this season. Jennings had 11-A in the
1st-QTR and 16 in the opening half to tie team records he now shares with
HoFamer Isiah Thomas.
Greg Monroe had 20-P & 12-RB for Detroit. Will Bynum scored 16-P off
the bench. Andre Drummond had 13-P with a game-high 13-RB.
Frye topped six Suns who scored in double figures with 21-P. Tucker &
Marcus Morris both had 17-P,  Green & Goran Dragic each added 15-P and
Miles Plumlee had 12-P. Tucker also grabbed 11-RB.

PISTONS FWD JOSH SMITH:   "'I wanted to be aggressive [on his last shot.
When I caught it, I didn't want to settle...This is a great game for us, to
be able to see how mentally strong we can be. We've just got to be able
to reflect on these games and apply it to the games that we have in front
of us."

PISTONS GD WILL BYNUM:   "It is the NBA. It is a game of runs. They are a
good team and made runs but we responded."

PHX H-COACH JEFF HORACEK:   "Those were two tough shots that Josh
made. We let him get to the basket at the end, but he was going in the
wrong direction and still knocked that down. Before that, we play great
defense, they lose the ball and they manage to bat it out to him and he hits
the 3. That's just a bad break for us.''

Thomas had 16 assists in a half for Detroit against Dallas on 2/13/1985. He
tied the team record with 25 assists in that game. Thomas twice reached 11
assists in a quarter.
The last NBA player with 16 assists in a half was Jason Kidd of Dallas on 4/5/2009
in a game against Phoenix. The last player with at least 11 assists in a quarter was
Steve Blake, who had 14 for Portland in 2009.
The Suns were without GD Eric Bledsoe, who had possible season-ending right
knee surgery Friday.
The Pistons are idle until next Friday when they host Utah.
