      A pair of 1st-Qtr Matthew
Stafford touchdown passes sent
the Lions on their way to a 34-3
Friday night win over Cincinnati
in the exhibition opener for both teams.
Stafford found Calvin Johnson for a 26-yard touchdown toss to
conclude Detroit's opening offensive drive. After the Bengals fumbled
the follow-up kickoff return, Stafford hooked-up with Nate Burleson
on a 7-yard TD on a 4th-&-1, video replay reversal call.
The Lions led 14-Zip just 5:07 into the contest and Stafford was
through for the night after going 6-for-7 for 71-yards and 2-TDs.
Cincinnati didn't do any better on their next try. Rookie QBack
Andy Dalton was intercepted on his first pass attempt by Lions CBack
Chris Houston.
The closest Cincy came was 14-3 on a 27-yard Mike Nugent field goal
9-sec into the 2nd-Qtr.
Lions back-up QBack Shaun Hill had a 7-yard touchdown run and Jason
Hanson a 37-yard FG as time expired to give Detroit a 24-3 halftime bulge.
Nate Hughes caught a 28-yard TD pass from Lions 4th string QBack Zac
Robinson and Dave Rayner booted a 44-yard field goal, both in the 4th-Qtr,
for the 34-3 final.

LIONS H-COACH JIM SCHWARTZ:      "Matt had great command. He wasn't just
going against a vanilla game plan."

LIONS QB MATTHEW STAFFORD:    "I think we're pretty exciting to watch when
all the pieces are together...Our guys up front did a good job. We came into
the game thinking about getting the ball out quick, trying to get the ball out of
my hands and get it into some other guys' hands and let them make some plays."
