@ NYC, NY:

      The Rangers used a 3-goal 1st-Per to beat the Red Wings
5-1 Wednesday night in an NHL exhibition.
      The Blueshirts got goals by Marian Gaborek, Mike Sauer and onetime Red Wing Sean Avery on just
eight shots aimed at Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard in the opening period.
      Rangers rookie Derek Stepan and second year NYR Michael Del Zotto added insurance goals for
New York in the 3rd-Per.
      A mid-2nd-Per power play goal by Brian Rafalski, his second goal in as many games, was the
only Detroit tally on Rangers netminder Henrik Lundqvist, who went played the entire game and
made 35-SV.
      Howard went all the way in the nets too, allowing 5-GA on 26-SOG.         
      Detroit is 2-3 on the exhibition season with all the wins at The Joe and all the defeats on the road.
