A second rainout this year at Cleveland has caused a second Tigers/Indians
doubleheader to be scheduled in this season's closing days.
Instead of the usual modern era day/night split double-dip (in order to get extra
gate revenues), this time it'll be a "traditional" doubleheader with two games played
back-to-back and only a 20--25 minute break between contests. Indians management
realized after only 10,161 fans showed up for game one of the series Monday evening,
opening the gates two different times for a mid-week split doubleheader wouldn't pay
off. Thus, the old "two for the price of one" philosophy was adopted.
Detroit will conclude its three game and its season series with Cleveland Wednesday
with a 4pm twinbill.
Wednesday's game one starters were pushed back from Tuesday:   Mitch Talbot (9-13)
for the Indians and Max Scherzer (12-10) of the Tigers. The game two starters are the
originally scheduled Wednesday probable pitchers:   Josh Tomlin (5-4) of the Tribe and
Justin Verlander (18-8) for Detroit.
