@ FT. WAYNE, IN:

Michigan thought it had the game
won, but after an early first overtime
goal was disallowed the door was still
open for Miami-of-Ohio and the RedHawks
scored a 3-2 win over the Wolverines at 1:54 of double-OT.
A left corner turnaround gave Miami's Alden Hirchfeld (#7) the puck at the top of
the left circle, and he turnaround fired underneath Michigan goaltender Shawn Hunwick
to set off a celebration that sends the RedHawks to the NCAA-D1 Frozen Four for a
second straight year.
Kevin Lynch potted a wraparound to the back of the net for Michigan at 2:37 of
the first overtime. However, after lengthy review it was ruled the whistle had blown
before the puck went across the goalline as a Miami penalty was being called.
Connor Knapp starred in goal for Miami with 55-SV and UM's Hunwick had 32-SV.
David Wohlberg (#10) and Chad Langlais (#5, a PPG) scored in regulation for Michigan.
Both of Miami's regulation time goals were on the power plays by Pat Cannone (#13 & #14).
Michigan ended its season 26-18-1 and Miami improved to 29-7-7.

QUOTEBOOK...

UM H-COACH RED BERENSON:   "That's a tough one to swallow. There's a loose puck in
the crease and the referee blew the whistle because he was calling a penalty on them
and yet, we had control - or were about to have control - of the puck...I don't even
feel like we lost. I know they scored, but I feel so good about our team and what they
accomplished."

UM FWD KEVIN LYNCH:   "I thought [his first OT non-goal] should have gone in.
I heard the whistle, but I don't know why the whistle was blown."

UM DEF/CAPT CHRIS SUMMERS:   "This is the most proud I've ever been of a Michigan
hockey team. It's kind of sad to say the season's over, but I'm so proud of the guys
that are sitting in the locker room right now."

UM FWD LOUIE CAPORUSSO:   "I think we were the better team. I'm going to be honest.
I thought we had horrible officiating all weekend. We had early whistles. They blew it.
It's not the way the game should be played."

MIAMI FWD ALDEN HIRSCHFELD:   "Obviously it was an unbelievable feeling...The puck
just kind of popped out and I took it out to the top of the circle and their D went down
to block it and I just shot it through on net."

OVERTIME:

Sunday's marathon victory was the first by Miami over Michigan in six post-season
meetings.
RIT plays Wisconson and Miami faces Boston College in the Frozen Fopur semi-finals
at Detroit's Ford Field on April 8th.
