@ St. PAUL, MN:
In a semi-home game, St. Cloud State of Minnesota ousted Northern Michigan from the
NCAA-D1 men's ice hockey "Sweet 16" Friday evening, but had to go to double overtime to
do it, 4-3.
Shortly after the opening faceoff of the second overtime, Tony Mosey completed a 3-way
passing play to get the game-winning goal on a power play at 0:23/5. Mosey (#13) tipped a
pass from Garrett Roe between the pads of Northern Michigan goalie Brian Stewart (50-SV).
The Wildcats forced overtime by coming back from 2-0 and 3-1 defecits. Justin Florek (#12)
got NMU within 2-1 with his goal at 14:04/1. Ray Kaunisto (#18) at 16:12/2 and unexpected
source Erik Sprady (#1) almost exactly a full period later at 16:11/3 deadlocked it 3-all.
Travis Novak (#11), Ryan Lasch (#20) and Roe (#20) had the regulation time goals for SCSU.
St. Cloud netminder Mike Lee made 42-SV.
The St. Cloud Huskies advanced to face Wisconsin Saturday night.
NMU H-COACH WALT KYLE: "It was a great college hockey game. There was great
goaltending at both ends. We were nervous early and could not get into a rhythm at
all. The difference tonight was definitely their power play.”
SCSU FWD TONY MOSEY: "That same play had happened earlier and I missed a wide-open
net so I knew that Roe was going to get it to me again and I had to put it in.”
