AT LEAST FOR A DAY<<
@ INDIANAPOLIS, IN:
Two Man Crew kept the Michigan
Wolverines' men's basketball season alive
Thursday afternoon in a 59-52 win over Iowa
in the first round of the Big Ten tournament.
Manny Harris scored 22-P with 9-RB and
DeShawn Sims added 14-P for UofM.
Michigan opened the game on a 12-4 run
and were up 32-23 at halftime. However,
when the M-Men started just 1-for-11 shooting
in the 2nd-H, Iowa closed within 4-P. The
Wolverines regained control with an 11-4 surge.
The Hawkeyes made it close with one last late run of 11-0 to make the score
57-52 with 1:21 remaining.
Cully Payne scored a game-high 25-P for Iowa and Aaron Fuller added 10-P
with a game-high 13-RB.
Even Michigan coach John Beilein acknowledges his team is unlikely to
receive even an NIT bid, so if Michigan can't win four games in four days at the
B10 playoffs to get the automatic NCAA tournament bid, it's shuitdown time for
the disappointing Wolverines who entered the season ranked an optomistic #15
in the country.
Michigan faces Big Ten regular season tri-champion Ohio State Friday afternoon
in the B10 quarter-finals.
UM GD MANNY HARRIS: "You know what? Everybody on this team wants to get to the
NCAA tournament, and there’s no better chance than right here. There’s no team in
the Big Ten that blew us out or anything. We’re confident that it could happen, and
if we play Michigan basketball, it will."
UM FWD DeSHAWN SIMS: "[Harris] hits that first shot, and that usually does it for him.
For a player of his caliber, just being able to hit your first shot, you see the ball going in,
and it just gives your overall game confidence."
