TOURNAMENT MVP FOR HIS CAREER-NIGHT<<

@ SIOUX FALLS, SD:

Oakland University earned its second ever NCAA-D1
men's basketball tournament bid by winning the Finals
of the Summit LGE tourney Tuesday night.
OU beat IUPUI 76-64 in a game where Sr-FWD Derick Nelson scored a career-high and
the game-high of 36-P.
Hampered in the first two tourney games because his nose was broken in the
quarter-final win over UMKC, Nelson went on a tear Tuesday. After Oakland
trailed early 6-1, a layup by Nelson exactly 5-mins into the contest gave the Golden
Grizzlies their first field goal. Nelson later started a personal 11-3 run which
included a triple with 6:35 to play in the 1st-H to put Oakland ahead 22-20 for the
first time in the game. The Jags could never even tie it up after that. Nelson's
free throw late in the 2nd-H gave Oakland its largest margin of 18-P. Nelson was
15-of-23 from the field including 3-of-8 from beyond the arc.
Larry Wright scored 16-P and Keith Benson added 8-P with a game-high 17-RB for OU.
IUPUI was led by Alex Young with 19-P, Robert Glenn with 18-P and Leroy Nobles with
14-P.
The Grizzlies extended two school records of 11 consecutive wins and 26 victories
(26-8) in a season. OU has won 20 of its last 21 games vs Summit LGE foes, the lone
loss earlier this season at IUPUI.
    The Jaguars are 24-10.

QUOTEBOOK...

OU H-COACH GREG KAMPE:   "I told the team before the game that, 'People will argue
with me on this, but we'll be the greatest team in the history of this league if you
win tonight.'"

OU FWD DERICK NELSON:   "I didn't want to be thinking I could have done something
more to help us out. Tonight, I had a big game."

OU GD LARRY WRIGHT:   "This is one of the most competitive teams I've ever been on.
We don't want to lose at anything, not even video games."

OVERTIME:

Nelson's 36-P were the second-most ever in Summit LGE tournament history,
earning him tourney MVP honors.
Nelson's previous career-high was in 2007, a 31-P effort vs the Michigan Wolverines.
