@ PALACE OF AUBURN HILLS:

The Pistons beat the Heat 32-14 in paint
points and led by as many as 17 before holding
on for an 87-83 home court win over Miami on
Monday night in the exhibition opener for both
teams.
    The Pistons out-shot the Heat 47.6% (30-of
63) to 36.6% (26-of-71) from the field.
Miami used 14 players and Detroit 13.
Will Bynum led Detroit with 15-P. Chris Wilcox
and Ben Gordon both added 11-P. All three came
off the bench.
Among the Piston starters, Tayshaun Prince
& Kwame Brown both led with 8-P.
Top Detroit draft choice Austin Daye had 3-P on a triple and a pair of blocked
shots in 11:15 of PT. Daye made a spectacular 2nd-Qtr block on what initially
appeared to be an un contested layup by Heat star Dwayne Wade.
Wade was only 6-of-13 from the field, but 6-of-8 from the foul line as he scored
a game-high 18-P and added a game-high 5-A. Udonis Haslem had 10-P plus a game-high
6-A for Miami.

QUOTEBOOK...

PISTONS H-COACH JOHN KUESTER:   "This is a work in progress, and we've had only 10
practices. Still, no matter what the situation is, you want to win games...That was one
of the greatest blocks of all time ...[it] shows what kind of player Austin can be."

PISTONS FWD AUSTIN DAYE:   "[Wade] told me 'nice hustle' after I blocked it. I had just
turned the ball over, so I was trying to make up for it by getting back on defense. I guess
Detroit is the perfect environment for the fans to appreciate a play like that."

HEAT GD DWAYNE WADE:   "There are some things that we need to work on. We've got
to communicate better -- we have to make it tougher for them to get to the basket.
That's what got us behind."

OVERTIME:

The replacement referees incorrectly awarded a pair of made free thrown to Bynum
with 1:21 remaining. When the mistake was pointed out and corrected, Maceo Baston
went to the charity stripe and missed both of his shots.
