WINGS RIP RANGERS IN 3RD-PER.....RED WINGS 4, NY Rangers 3, F 9/18/09

    The Red Wings got four final period goals to edge the New
York Rangers 4-3 Friday night in exhibition action.
    Entering the 3rd-Per down 2-0, Detroit got a power play
goal from Valtteri Filppula just 30-sec into the period and
Brett Lebda scored to tie it 2-all less than a minute later at
1:23/3. Back in a Detroit sweater again after signing a
summertime free agent contract, Jason Williams potted the
go-ahead goal at 8:02/3 on a slapshot. Justin Abdelkader scored what proved to be
the winner on a tip-in at 16:18/3.
    The Blueshirts took their 2-0 lead on markers from Artem Anisimov in the 1st-Per
and Enver Lisin in the 2nd-Per. After the Red Wings had gone up 4-2, Ryan Callahan's
unassisted wrister at 18:00/3 made it a close final.
    Abdelkader and Williams had a goal and an assist each and Ville Leino had a pair
of assists for Detroit.
    Chris Osgood got the start in goal for the Wings and yielded two goals on 20-SOG
in his 32-mins of action. Prospect Thomas McCollum went the rest of the way saving
10-of-11.
    The Red ings stayed perfect on the pre-season at 2-0 while the Rangers remained
winless at 0-2-1.

OVERTIME:

    Detroit signed Red Deer (WHL) FWD Willie Coetzee to a 3-year, entry level contract
Friday. The 18-year old Coetzee had been invited to Wings training camp on an amateur
tryout.    
    Detroit hosts Buffalo Saturday night at The Joe in an FSD cablecast contest.
