The two teams that met in last year's
WNBA Eastern Conference Finals have
fallen on tough times. Both have changed
coaches and both are at the bottom of this
year's standings.
The Shock ran past the visiting New York
Liberty 76-64 Tuesday night in a game that
elevated Detroit to 7-10 and dropped NYL to
Deanna Nolan had game-highs of 26-P and
14-RB (also her new career-high for boards) to
lead the Detroit effort at both ends of the floor.
When New York got within 1-P at 37-36 in the 3rd-Qtr the Shock went on a 7-0 run
with Nolan hitting a pair of free throws, Katie Smith firing in a triple and Taj McWillians
scoring on a fast-break.
Twice in the 4th-Qtr the Liberty got back within 4-P, but Nolan scored each time. On
the second occasion Nolan converted a 3-point play to make it 64-57. Nolan later put-back
her own miss to give Detroit a 70-61 lead with just 2:10 remaining.
Smith added 16-P and McWilliams 9-P for the Shock. Nolan, Smith & McWilliams all tied
for the game-high of 4-A.
Shameka Christon had 14-P for New York with Tiffany Jackson & Janel McCarville both
scored 12-P.
    Detroit concluded a 2-2 homestand.

SHOCK H-COACH RICK MAHORN:   "That is a great game for (Nolan). Not only Deanna,
but it was a total team effort. We obtained some goals that we set in the second half
of the season and we went out there and executed our game plan...We know they have
good 3-point shooters in Christon and (Catherine) Kraayeveld. We know if they’re open,
they’re going to get a good look. It wasn’t falling tonight, we were contesting it and we
had good defensive rotations.”

SHOCK GD DEANNA NOLAN:   "It was a little absent in Sunday’s game, our rebounding,
getting the long rebounds, so we had to make it a point to get in there and dig out those
rebounds (on Tuesday)...Oh yeah, I’m getting close to 100 percent again. My knee’s
feeling better, shoulder’s feeling good, the whole right side is feeling good."

SHOCK CEN CHERYL FORD:   "It was about defense. We absolutely looked terrible
on [Sunday]. It was a bad defensive effort. We knew that and that was our biggest

Tuesday was Nolan's third consecutive game with 20 or more points.
The Shock allowed the 7-day contract of GD Anna DeForge to expire in order
to re-sign CEN Barbara Farris (who DNP).
The 13 New York defeats are three more than any other team (Detroit) in the
