@ PALACE OF AUBURN HILLS:
Connecticut popped for 29-P in the 1st-Qtr, the most Detroit's defense has
allowed all season, and the Sun defeated the Shock 83-65 Sunday evening.
The visitors were up 50-33 by the half and 55-35 early in the 3rd-Qtr before
cruising to the finish.
Lindsay Whalen was 7-for-11 before intermission to score 17 of her game-high
22-P. Asjha Jones added 20-P and Sandrine Gruda had 11-P.
Deanna Nolan topped Detroit with 20-P. No other Shock player reached double
figures. Cheryl Ford had 9-P with a game-high 9-RB.
The Shock are 6-10 on the season, but just 1-8 vs the Eastern Conference including
1-2 against the Sun. Connecticut ended a 3-game losing skid to go to 10-9 including
two Palace victories over Detroit.
SHOCK GD DEANNA NOLAN: "Oh yeah...just - kaput. No defense whatsoever...
They had any shot they wanted to make...We can’t have those lapses, especially
when we’re trying to be a playoff team. We are defending (WNBA) champions but
that doesn’t mean nothing. That was last season. This is a different season.”
SHOCK H-COACH RICK MAHORN: "Connecticut came out and, basically, hit us in
the mouth. They didn't look like they played a back-to-back (schedule). They came
out and executed and we didn't execute defensively."
SUN GD LINDSAY WHALEN: "We were just trying to be really aggressive. The last
week or so we've been in a little rough patch of our season. We just wanted to
come out aggressively tonight and get us into our sets quick."
The Shock are 1-2 on a 4-game homestand that ends Tuesday night vs the New
