PLYMOUTH SINKS SPIRIT AGAIN.....WHALERS 6, Saginaw 2, W 2/25/09

@ SAGINAW, MI:

    The Whalers blew open a close contest
with four unanswered goals including three
in the 3rd-Per to skate away with a 6-2
Wednesday win at Saginaw.
    A.J. Jenks' (#18) goal at 19:59/2 was both
a backbreaker and a tie-breaker, snapping a 2-all deadlock. Michal Jordan (#11),
Vern Cooper (#14, a PPG) and Tyler Seguin (#17, a PPG) added the 3rd-Per markers.
    Plymouth's 8th straight win over the Spirit moved the Whalers within just one
standings point of Saginaw for second place in the OHL-West division and for third
seed in the OHL Western Conference.
    The Whalers swept the Spirit in their just completed home-&-home series and beat
Saginaw for the third time this month.
    Overall, the Whalers have won eight of their last nine games.
    Chris Terry (#35, a PPG) and Matt Caria (#23) also scored for the Whalers.
Terry and Seguin both had 1-G & 2-A.
    T.J. Brodie (#12, a PPG) and Jordan Skellett (#14) each scored for Saginaw.
    The physical contest saw Plymouth go 3-for-12 on the power play to just 1-for-8
by Saginaw. There were 29 combined penalties.
    The Whalers out-shot the Spirit 38-26.

OVERTIME:

    Caria was named as the "Boston Pizza OHL PLayer of the Week" for the period
ending FEB 22ND for his 10 points in three games with a plus-5 rating.
