COACH KURT AT LARGE.....M, 3/3/14
Posted on: 03-02-2014

E-mail to a Friend

    The Chinese have names for
each year:  Year of the Tiger
(1968), Year of the Dragon, etc.
    Digging out my driveway
AGAIN on Sunday I wondered:
Is 2014 the Year of the Snowplow?

    Did the Tigers get damaged
goods from Boston?
    SStop Jose Iglesias was expected
to anchor the Detroit infield for a decade when the Tigers obtained him in
a 3-team trade last July.
Iglesias missed time during last September's stretch drive with
shin problems and is now sidelined at least a week at spring training
with a stress reaction in his shins.
Troubling signs for a player who just turned 24 on JAN 5TH.

Boy, the Pistons sure have responded to their in-season coaching
change, eh?
After winning John Loyer's debut as interim bench boss the Pistons
are 1-7 including defeats in their last four games. They dropped a home-
&-home set to Charlotte, a team even worse than Detroit last season,
but a club now ahead of the Pistons in the race for the final playoff
spot in a weak NBA Eastern Conference.
Instead of overdrive the Pistons are going in reverse down the
stretch.
Maybe if they'd hired a real coach to replace fired Maurice Cheeks
instead of promoting a holdover assistant from the previous unsuccessful
coaching regime of Lawrence Frank, the Pistons might have actually had
a chance to reach post-season.
The Palace will be empty again come mid-April.

You think the Lions front office is a mess?
What about the New York Jets?
I could not believe the ESPN crawl that flashed the fact the Jets had
slapped a franchise tag on kicker Nick Folk.
Why any team would franchise a mediocre placekicker and guarantee
him a raise when a minimum wage college kicker would do just as good
if not better is WAY beyond me.
And I used to be a kicker.
