COACH KURT AT LARGE.....T 9/20/11

      If you're a regular reader you've
noticed we have a new web address.
Like the WWE (formerly the WWF),
we've "re-branded" our product.
The new name and new address
are directly on point to our mission
statement:   GETdetroitsports.com

I was still just a fan and four years
shy of being a reporter who covered
the 1972 Detroit Tiger division championship team, but I don't recall even
the Denny McLain 31 win season of 1968 as being as dominant as the year
Justin Verlander is currently having.
Dennis Dale was certainly something in "The Year of the Pitcher." But
keep in mind, his 31 wins and 280 strikeouts came at a time before the
designated hitter rule when there was almost always at least one soft spot
in the opposing lineup.
Verlander is a threat to throw a no-hitter every time he takes the hill
and already has two to his credit.
McLain never pitched a no-no and rarely threatened to do so.
I just wish Justin would lose a game soon, though. It's going to happen
sometime and I'd rather he do it before the post-season begins.

I watched Saturday's Michigan State @ Notre Dame debacle with #1
son Paul at the MSU South Florida Alumni Club in suburban Ft. Lauderdale.
Former Spartan great Lorenzo White watched with us and we're all
in agreement:   State had better get back to running the ball or they're
looking at a disappointing season.
A few fewer penalties would help too.

You think Detroit fans are tough on their teams?
OMG, you should hear Miami Dolphins fans rip into their team on
sportstalk radio.
On the other side of the state Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans were
doing likewise last week. Then their team staged a comeback win at
Minnesota Sunday and everything was right with the world again.

T-Bay Lightning GM Steve Yzrerman is VERY POPULAR down here
as training camp got underway.
